Lifesong (2005)
Casting Crowns latest, much anticipated, album ὕLifesongὖ was written in 2005. It is another great collection of perceptive songs that take a frank look at some of the struggles of Christian life. Their shrewd songs also challenge the church on many issues, and implore us to be less judgemental. Casting Crowns sometimes take on a sombre tone to deal with more taxing issues, for example in ὕDoes anybody hear herὖ which talks about how the church may judge too quickly in unknown matters. They also have many positive rhythmic songs that overflow with glory and praise. Casting Crowns portray an obvious passion for God throughout this album, so although the content may sometimes be repetitive, you are bound to find the perfect song for whatever mood you are in.

Album Reviews
Lifesong
The album begins with the self-titled “Lifesong” which sings of how no sacrifice can be large enough for God. Although it can seem unoriginal in style, the lyrics are really worth listening to as they talk of how the only sacrifice worth giving to God is life, and this is only worthwhile if it is giving wholeheartedly. This Christian music song becomes much more upbeat in the chorus, and then stays this way throughout. “Lifesong” ends with a rather long instrumental, which is a quiet end to a weak song. ^Top
Praise You In This Storm
“Praise you in the storm” is full of inspirational lyrics that sing of how God is always here, even when he seems far away and that God always knows best. The chorus is exciting to listen to and the powerful lyrics are sung with amazing emotion which makes this a very interesting track to listen to. ^Top
Does Anybody Hear Her
The church gets another bashing in the song “Does anybody hear her” which sing of how we can all judge too quickly, and that we can never really know what goes on inside a person. The Christian music is very interesting to listen to and the ending is much better than the previous two songs with a clever reversal of lyrics with the gender changing from “she” to “he”. This is a great song and shows Casting Crowns at their best. ^Top
In Me
“Stained glass masquerade” is wonderfully upbeat throughout and sings of how people tend to hide their real feelings and put on a false front. Casting Crowns choose to split the female and male vocals, which sounds very effective. This Christian music song carries an important message and the ending is both simple and successful. ^Top
Love Them Like Jesus
The emotional “Love them like Jesus” talks about how hard it can be to comfort someone who is in such pain, and the best thing we can do is show them Jesus’ love instead. The sober lyrics and sombre sounding music is perfect for such an emotional song. Casting Crowns have constructed this song really well, and the quiet end is very effective. ^Top
Stained Glass Masquerade
The darkness we experience before coming to Jesus is sung about in the song “Set me free”. The lyrics sing of how we have to cry out to be freed after the darkness is too much to handle. This is perfectly expressed through the explosive chorus after the initial gentle verses. The ending repetition of the words “You are free” is a great reminder to us and an excellent ending. This song is fantastic! ^Top
While You Were Sleeping
The expectation of Jesus’ return is sung about in the song “While you were sleeping” which begins by singing of two towns - Bethlehem and Jerusalem which missed seeing Jesus. Casting Crowns is begging us to be ready for Jesus’ return so we are not left behind. The lyrics, in particular, are inspirational and very thought provoking. ^Top
Set Me Free
Casting Crowns sing of living a life of worship and sacrifice in the song “Father, Jesus, Spirit.” The lyrics are uplifting and the beat is energetic and fun to listen to, which is very refreshing after the previous sombre songs. This is an excellent praise Christian music song. ^Top
Father, Spirit, Jesus
“In Me” is another praise song and sings of God making us strong. This Christian music song has the added touch of male and female solos, and even one by a child! It is an interesting and simple song which sounds very effective. ^Top
Prodigal
The awful darkness of being apart from God is sung about in the song “Prodigal”. These are fantastic emotive lyrics which are really worth concentrating on. Casting Crowns sings of how we need lifting up after we so easily fall. This is a rather quiet Christian music song, but the insightful lyrics make up for this. ^Top
And Now My Lifesong Sings
A song of quiet praise finishes this album. “And now my Lifesong sings” contains many of the lyrics from “Amazing Grace” and is again a rather slow song. Unfortunately this album finishes with a sizzle rather than the preferable bang. ^Top
