Long Way Home (2005)

The soulful voice of Ginny Owens is back and with it she brings us more amazing lyrics about her personal relationship with God. Although personal to her, they are sure to run true with many of us which makes this perceptive album all the more personal to the listener. “Long Way Home” has more of a pop style than her previous albums, and she has achieved this successfully without abandoning her trademark bluesy/soulful sound. This album will definitely appeal to many listeners.

Album Reviews

Waiting
In “Waiting for Tomorrow” Ginny Owens reminds us that there is no point waiting for better days to come, as they will never come. We should all make the most of where are now – as God has planned each day for us. We can sense Ginny Owens excitement in the chorus as she sings “we belong here”, and that we are all here for a reason. Her soulful voice is a joy to listen to, and this is a great Christian music song to start another amazing album.

Fellow Traveler
Listeners are now gently brought into “Fellow Traveler” which sings of showing another person – a “fellow traveller” where the bread is. Ginny Owens reminds us that although we may all seem different, we are really the same as we all have the same human emotions. This is a fun Christian music song to listen to with an upbeat chorus and an important message.

Long Way Home
The highlight of “Long Way Home” is the soulful chorus which sings of needing each other in this world and talking of “a better place” i.e. heaven. This Christian music song shows off Ginny Owens vocal ability as well as her honesty which comes through in her lyrics. This is a brilliant Christian music song.

Welcome To Love
The more pop approach in “Welcome to Love” will amaze you and delight you for its energy. Unfortunately the lyrics are not as perceptive as they usually are as Ginny Owens sings of the wonderful love of God. This is a fun Christian music song to listen to, but lacks the depth and meaning of the lyrics.

Wonderful wonder
Ginny Owens now shares what her personal faith with God is like in “Wonderful Wonder” and what it is like to have no sight to see the beauty around her. The lyrics are beautiful, but the music is rather dull which is a great pity as this could have been a really powerful Christian music song.

Let The Silence Speak
“Let The Silence Speak” sings of the benefits of being quiet and still in God’s presence. It is only when we are still and quiet that we hear God’s voice and it takes “every bit of faith to be still”. This is another Christian music song which is pop in genre which may mean that Ginny Owens is leaving behind her usual soul/blue style and sliding more towards pop and contemporary music, which would be a shame.

Tyranny
Ginny Owens now talks about trying to break free from the rules she set herself in “Tyranny” and how God set her free from her fear of being outspoken. This is a darker Christian music song than the others on this album and is very interesting to with a great ending crescendo of sound.

Pieces
“Pieces” is an amazing rock like Christian music song which sings of a soul in need of repair. This is a very fun song with a great drum beat and lyrics. Ginny Owens should really try to do more rock songs as this one worked so well.

I Bring Everything
The short and abrupt “I Bring Everything” sing of bringing everything to God as everything we own is from God. The chorus brings the whole song alive as Ginny Owens sings of giving her life to God as that is the biggest thing she can do.

Live Once
Listeners are now brought into the insightful “Live once” which warns us not to waste our time as we “only live once, so we better think twice.” Ginny Owens is reminding us to make the most of today. Although a great Christian music song to end the album on it seemed to be a little too long.
